Lodestar

Dad was asked today, “What is your true north?”

It was a poignant question for Dad. I had only given him a few hours of sleep over the last couple of nights.

Despite the sleep deprivation, Dad said he’s never had a clearer North Star.

At first, he said his world had shrunk to me.

But after thinking about it more, Dad realized the opposite had happened.

His lodestar is now horizon expansion.

He said my arrival expanded his horizons. Suddenly, the world feels bigger. More terrains to traverse. More mountains to climb. More ideas to explore. More meaning to uncover.

Dad says life will be an adventure now, guided by our lodestar.

And apparently, that lodestar is me.

Which feels like a lot of pressure for someone currently focused mainly on milk.
